I have seen a lot of ugliness on FB as of late. Perhaps you’re guilty of it. Perhaps I am. I’ve seen statements on “both sides” that are appalling and that surely are hurting the work Christians are trying to do on this earth. I’ve seen so-called church leaders/volunteers name-calling Christians leaving FB and I’ve seen Christians leaving FB that act like leaving is the most righteous thing to do. Christians need to draw a collective breath and look at the big picture. Are we glorifying God? Are we sharing His Gospel with this lost world? Lost people will act lost but it’s the “saved” that often do the most damage. I’m talking to me and you here, Christian.
Jesus told us that He came to this world to save sinners. “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Our mission is similar. We are to glorify God and share the Gospel with the lost. How can we do this if we leave such a powerful, far-reaching (and free, might I add) platform? Sure, the censoring is ridiculous right now…but Christians, for who knows how much longer, still have a chance to be a light in a very dark world. Our words/posts, our church services, etc. may one day be censored but right now they are not.
Though I agree that our closest friends should love the Lord (“iron sharpens iron”), we are NOT here to isolate ourselves from all non-believers or how will we reach them? Unless you run a page or group where statistics can be seen, you may not realize the reach that you have. We are being watched. How are we reacting in the midst of trouble? Are we touting Bible verses but forgetting to live by them? Are we living in fear or even reacting rudely to others during this chaotic time? Are we letting the media control our minds or are we letting God’s Word infiltrate our thoughts? Remember, Jesus told us, “…in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
This article was not written to tell people what to do. This was only meant to remind us to keep the main thing the main thing. Love Jesus, share Christ and see an opportunity while we still have it. We need more light in this dark world, not less of it.
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
