I checked the radar this morning. It wasn’t supposed to rain until 9:30 or so. Plenty of time for a walk. And yet – I did my morning walk in the pouring rain. This made me very contemplative as I watched the water fall from the cloudy sky. Several things were swirling around in my brain:
1 – Humankind does their best to predict the weather (nothing against meteorologists) based on all the technology and knowledge they have. Yet they still can’t get it right. They are limited.
2 – For those who believe life began billions of years ago…are you telling me after billions of years we still aren’t equipped enough to figure even the weather out?
3 – And if we can’t even figure out the weather, why are we looking to humankind for bigger answers? Answers to questions like – Who am I? Where did I come from? What is good? What is bad? Does that change? What is a woman? What is a man? What happens after this life?
The truth is – when you look to humans for answers to these questions, they appear to change with the wind. When we have limited knowledge and are still discovering things, we end up having to recant on things we once believed.
When we follow after one person or another, truth gets jumbled up and foggy. It’s truly a mess. Can there not be just ONE source of truth and right to guide us? If we look to this world, we can’t steady ourselves on any foundation of truth. We must change each week or two as the world changes. Things this world once stood for are long since forgotten. So where does that leave us?
It leaves us standing on the Solid Rock of Jesus and what He says is TRUTH. It doesn’t matter how I feel, it doesn’t matter what I think or what the world thinks… it only matters what the One who created us thinks.
What a RELIEF!
This can give believers a HUGE breath of fresh air.
- I don’t have to ponder where I came from or what defines me.
- I don’t have to worry about what is good or bad, or what morals even are or if they affect me.
- I don’t have to look back and forth between both sides of current issues and try to figure out what I believe about the definition of marriage, or a man, or a woman, etc. etc.
- I don’t have to fret about what happens after I forever close my eyes in this life.
Because the Giver of Life and Definer of Truth already gave me these answers.
To be perfectly honest, when I checked the forecast this morning, I knew, based on experience, not to trust it. I fully expected to walk in the rain. And walk in the rain I did.
But I don’t have to be skeptical with God’s truth. He’s given me His infallible Guidebook to Life, the Bible. It’s not full of inaccurate guesses and predictions of the future. It’s trustworthy. It’s reliable. And it sets my feet upon a firm rock.
Man still hasn’t figured it all out. As the world gets more and more stormy by the second, I can follow the light of God’s Word. I can do like I did this morning – I can put one foot in front of the other and smile as I walk in the rain.
“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.
Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”
