Forgiven

Written July 2004 by Jen Bragg (McGee)

He tries so hard to recover

those things that bring back disgrace

He digs and digs through your past

and then slams your sins in your face

While Christ is giving you comfort

and telling you He brings up no more

It’s during this time of forgiveness

that the Devil comes pounding your door

He brings you painful reminders

that come equipped with guilt

Your eyes begin to look backwards

despite the restoration God’s built

Satan is laughing and delighting

in this mind he is trying to win

He thinks He’s gaining control

by bringing up these past sins

But like a magnet, the Bible,

snaps your focus aright

The words of our Savior remind us

of when darkness was slaughtered by light

God’s very Beloved hung on the cross

dying for your guilt and shame

And this victory in Jesus protects you

when Satan comes calling your name

So the next time Satan reminds you

of all that occurred in your past

Remind him of his future

and where he and his followers will be cast

With Christ we have true victory

for His death on the cross declared

That Satan can never bring back

the sins that were covered there.

I wrote this when my college friend, Josh McGee, knew I loved to write, so he gave me a topic to write about that many struggle with. Can’t believe this was 21 1/2 years ago 🤯 & that I would marry Josh a little under 2 years later. 😁 Maybe someone reading this needs this reminder…
