Someone, Somewhere, Is Counting On You to Serve Jesus Well!

Josh & I received an unexpected phone call a couple of nights ago. A call that literally made our whole day. And I’m sharing this not to pat ourselves on the back, but to share an encouraging thought…

A young man, who was in our youth group many years ago at our former church, called both of us. He said he had to search through two years of text messages to find our numbers, but he couldn’t go to bed until he told us what was on his heart.

This “kid” is now a young husband and father. He said when he looked back over his life, the biggest spiritual influencers he had in his life were me and Josh. (Humbling moment!) He said that God had used us greatly in his life and he couldn’t pillow his head until he told us that. He also said that God had saved his marriage and that he really wanted to use his life for God. The events of this past week had reminded him that he can’t waste any more time in the middle of the road, not speaking up for the Lord when he should. And he wanted to change that.

Wow!

It’s easy to look back over your years of serving in churches, etc. and to get discouraged. It feels at times that the ones you try to invest in the most end up turning on you, or falling away from the Lord. Of course, many people have been encouraging, but it’s typically easiest to remember the hateful comments. I guess that’s human nature – both the spewing of hatred and the difficulty letting those hateful comments go. You can often wonder, “Why, Lord? Why did you send us to that place?” or “Was any of this worth it?”.

This young man reminded us that God can use anyone who is willing, and that perhaps we are impacting people when we don’t realize it.

Can you look back over your life and see one or two people who made the biggest difference in your life? I can!

Let’s spend the rest of our lives making a difference by speaking the truth of Jesus into the lives of those around us. Because someone, somewhere, is counting on us to follow Jesus well.

What a humbling reminder.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.“ – Galatians 6:9
