CARRYING THE TORCH – Reflecting on the Death of Charlie Kirk

My heart is so heavy as I reflect on the terrible assassination of Charlie Kirk. So many thoughts swirling through my head:

  • Anger over such a heinous, hateful act.
  • Disbelief that he’s really gone.
  • Sorrow that such an impactful voice for Jesus has been snuffed out.
  • Sadness that this world is so wicked and lost.

And yet, when I feel confused, I cling to the One who isn’t.

What is true in these moments of confusion?

  • God is good no matter what.
  • God was not shocked by Charlie’s death.
  • Charlie is with his Savior, experiencing zero pain and true joy.
  • Charlie ran his race WELL.
  • Charlie did more for Jesus than most people have done with twice the amount of life allowed.
  • Charlie spent his life serving Jesus, and there is no better purpose on this planet.
  • Jesus tells us that those who are persecuted for His name are BLESSED!
  • Charlie has left a huge gap that we must resolve to fill.

This terrible tragedy MUST stir us to action. Our spiritual laziness has kept us slumbering during battle while people like Charlie were working the front lines. This is not the time to retreat. May this gut-wrenching day prompt us to head to the heat of the battle – to share Jesus MORE, to care about what matters, to boldly share Jesus’ truth in love, and to carry the torch that Charlie carried so well and has passed on to us.

Praying for his beautiful family.

Praying for our Nation.

And praying that I will be bold enough to carry the bright torch of truth to this dark world that is in desperate need of Jesus.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. – Ephesians 6:10-13

Here am I, Lord, send me!

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. – Matthew 5:10-12
